ASSOCIAZIONE ROTTA DI ENEA
ASSOCIAZIONE ROTTA DI ENEA
The Associazione Rotta di Enea promotes and coordinates the initiatives within the framework of the Rotta di Enea cultural itinerary, certified by the Council of Europe. It has its registered office in Rome and a permanent representation at the Municipality of Edremit in Turkey.
The Association, in collaboration with the Municipality of Edremit, the Lavinium Foundation and the numerous international bodies and institutions that are members of the network, promoted and presented the candidature of the Aeneas Route to the Council of Europe’s Cultural Routes Office, and on 23 May 2021 obtained official certification as a Cultural Route of the Council of Europe by unanimous vote of the EPA.
The Association has a prestigious international Scientific Committee and a Strategic Committee of Local Authorities, which provides planning and coordination guidance for the international network of local institutions.
The main aims of the Association are:
⦁ To promote and disseminate the cultural and artistic heritage linked to the myth of Aeneas and the Virgilian tale of the Aeneid, which are symbols of the long formation of the Mediterranean culture and of the common European roots.
⦁ To promote the culture of the sea, the landscapes, and testimonies of the past, as well as the universal values of the encounter between peoples – by retracing the journey of the mythical hero from Troy to the coasts of Latium – in the belief that these very diversities have built up over time the cultural wealth of European countries, which together form an inestimable shared heritage.
⦁ To coordinate the activities carried out in the framework of Aeneas’ Route, a European Cultural Route certified by the Council of Europe.
⦁ To act as a platform of collaboration between the members of the international network, favouring the development of sustainable tourism based on the promotion of the historical, archaeological and landscape heritage of the Mediterranean and the values of the Council of Europe.
⦁ To promote events and artistic productions related to the myth of Aeneas and the Trojan diaspora, to promote research activities and to foster exchange programmes between the younger generations.
